HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

The Level 2 First Aid course is the minimum standard recommended for any occupational purpose, along with the tremendous value add of CPR and AED training. Because we appreciate how difficult it can be to get your staff and/or volunteers together in one place for even one day, let alone two or more, this course is divided into an online training portion and physical skills portion so only one day in class is required.

 

Course Duration: 6 Hours (PLUS PRE-COURSE HOMEWORK ACTIVITY)

Covered in this course are the following elements and Learning Objectives

• Identify and control Dangers
• Identify and Control infection risks using appropriate protective devices
• Understand basic anatomy and physiology of chest, airway, respiratory and cardiovascular
systems
• Follow the Basic Life Support flowchart – DRSABCD in a rescue scenario
• Recognise an unconscious breathing Casualty and manage by placing into recovery
position
• Recognise an unconscious non-breathing casualty and manage by Performing 2 mins of
CPR on Adult manikin (placed on floor) and Infant manikin (placed on a hard surface for 2
minutes
• Perform CPR on an adult manikin on the floor in a multiple rescuer scenario
• Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in a simulated CPR rescue scenario
• Communicate Incident Details to Emergency Services
• Understand Legal, Workplace and community considerations
• Follow State/territory/professional regulations and/or codes of practice
• Recognise and manage an allergic reaction
• Recognise Anaphylaxis and manage using an Anaphylaxis emergency response kit
including the use of an Epipen

• Airway Obstruction
• Asthma
• Wounds and Bleeds management
• Shock
• Cardiac conditions, Heart attack
• Stroke
• Poisons
• Bites and Stings
• Fractures, Dislocation, Sprain and Strain, Spinal Injury,
• Head injury, Chest injury
• Temperature related conditions
• Burns
• Diabetes, Epilepsy, Fainting
• Drowning

Qualification

After successful completion of the course and achievement of the learning objectives, the candidate
will receive a Statement of attainment for HLTAID003 PROVIDE FIRST AID

Certificate Currency

It is recommended by Worksafe Australia, the Australian Resuscitation council and other peak
bodies/regulatory authorities, that First Aid Qualifications should be renewed every 3 years and that
CPR be undertaken every 12 months

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, however Learners should have Literacy and Numeracy
competencies equivalent to Australian Core skills Framework Level 1. This requires a candidate to be
able to communicate incident details verbally and to be able to provide and accurate written or
verbal report of the incident. Learners should be able to perform CPR on the floor and provide
effective chest compressions.
